Community digs deep for Pinneys
Community support for the Pinney family was high when an auction of donated goods raised more than $20,000 at the Ord River Sports Club (Sporties) last Saturday.
Local businesses and families dug deep to help support Mel, Ollie and Leroy Pinney while Neville Pinney is receiving treatment for bowel cancer in Perth.
The treatment will take a minimum of six months.
Animated and vocal encouragement from MC Scott Day provided bidders with descriptions of items donated for the auction.
These included household goods, tyres, tours, furniture and even a 2002 Hyundai Accent.
Enthusiasm was high with members of the crowd topping their own offers for items coming under the hammer.
More than $5000 has also been raised through collection tins placed throughout Kununurra and from the Family Fun Day in Celebrity Tree Park on August 26.
The Pinney family and friends extended a huge thankyou to the sponsors for donating goods to the evening, and the rest of the community for the support of the auction, collection tins and the family fun day.
