Kerrs stint with Pies over

Denmark-Walpole have denied any ill-feeling towards star recruit Daniel Kerr after stating the former West Coast Eagle had walked away from the club only five rounds into the Great Southern Football League season.

Kerr appeared jovial after the Magpies' big win at home over Albany a fortnight ago but was removed from the Magpies' squad list in the match day Footy Focus magazine last Wednesday and did not play on Sunday against Royals.

The club would not comment last Wednesday when questioned over his future amid speculation of a falling out after the club's post-match function.

Coach Matt Candy confirmed on Sunday after the match Kerr would not play for the club again this season, but denied any ill-feeling with the former Eagle.

Candy said a "bucket load of money" offered by a club in the Goldfields Football League was the reason behind Kerr's departure and he was leaving on "his own steam".

"When he first came down, it was between us and Kalgoorlie. Now they have thrown a bucket load of money at him just for work and a fair bit to play," he said.

"We weren't paying him to play and we were just employing him."

Candy stopped short of labelling the recruitment a failed experiment but said he expected the former Brownlow Medal runner-up, who only retired from the AFL two seasons ago, to have more impact.

"Match day, we expected a little bit more but as far as the failed experiment, no, because it was always going to be a touch-and-go thing," Candy said.

"We said that from the start we would give it a go and we had that agreement with Kerry - if it doesn't work, let's just all walk away from it and move on.

"There is no falling out. The whole deal with Kerry was obviously to try and assist him through his court and everything else was really important for us and that was our deal with him that we would and do all that … there is no hard feelings."

Kerr played four matches and booted two goals, but struggled for fitness and was moved from the midfield to a deep-forward role in his last two matches.

He collected 23 possessions in his first match against Railways but only eight in the Magpies' second 100-plus point defeat to start the season.

Kerr is set to appear in court on June 9 after appearing last Tuesday where his bail was renewed over two counts of endangering the life, health or safety of a person from an incident at a Glendalough home in November.

His bail was amended in March so he could move to Denmark and play for the Magpies, telling the _ Albany Advertiser _ he envisaged staying in the town and his move would not be a "short-term thing".
