Guns back for service

Narrogin's Memorial Park has had four refurbished guns reinstated ahead of this weekend's Anzac centenary commemorations.

It is a welcome return for the war trophies, captured or donated from conflicts including Sudan, World War I and World War II.

Town of Narrogin chief executive Aaron Cook said the 77mm Krupp howitzer, nine-pound Armstrong rifled muzzle loader and trench mortar were restored by the Narrogin Menshed.

"The refurbishment of the guns are a credit to Menshed. They have done an absolutely fantastic job," he said.

"The (Shire) works crew have also done a great job in the creation of the new concrete pads securing the guns".

The guns were dismantled in the early 2000s because of rust and other damage inflicted by weather.

Narrogin RSL sub-branch president Ries Chattillon said he was looking forward to seeing the guns feature in the upcoming ceremonies.

"We are expecting 500 people at the Anzac Day services and having the guns back is great," he said.
