Kitchen stars to wok ‘n roll

Sipping on a local riesling and munching on some fresh paella while watching an illusionist make his assistant disappear within a wine barrel will make for an interesting day out.

The 26th Porongurup Wine Festival will be held at Ironwood Estate Wines this year, with 10 Porongurup wine producers offering tastings and sales at the family-friendly event.

Ironwood Estate Wines co-owner Mary Harma said the event would be “bigger and better” than when they hosted it back in 2011, with up to 2000 people expected.

“There will be a local produce on show and it’s a lovely day out for the whole family,” she said.

The Great Grape Stomp promises to be a — somewhat messy — favourite as always, with teams of two rushing against the clock to crush the most grapes.

This year’s One Wok Wonder cook-off will be judged by MasterChef and SBS celebrity Adam Liaw, who will assist in judging the “wok stars”.

Mrs Harma said an exciting new feature this year would be a performance from Jean-Luc Marinai, illusionist extraordinaire. She said three bands would entertain the crowd — Perth band Affinity, Big Men Working and One Drop.

For the children, there would be a train, bouncy castle, alpacas, face painting and clowns.

Food stalls, featuring local oysters and yabbies and paella and pizza, will also be available.
