Cruise ships docks in Albany

The first cruise ship of the season sailed into King George Sound at noon last Tuesday.

The Dawn Princess brought 2250 passengers with it, many first-time visitors to Albany, eager to explore the cities historic streets and other local sights.

Queenslanders Susan and Alan Busby have been aboard the ship since July as part of a world tour and said they enjoyed returning to Albany after spending childhood holidays here.

“I love Albany … I used to visit all the time for family holidays to stay at Flinders Lodge and go to the Stirling and Porongurup Range,” Mrs Busby said.

“It is fantastic to be back to see how it has grown up.”

Katherine McNamara, from NSW, also enjoyed returning to the port city after many years.

“I first visited Albany in 1982,” she said.

“I had cousins living here who loved growing up here … as we came off the ship today a busker was playing the bagpipes which was a nice welcome.”

International visitor and first-time cruise passenger Margarette Beech from Oxford, England, said her impression of Albany was “a lovely, clean city.”

“It is the first time I’ve been on a cruise ship and in this part of the world so it is a good way to see some of Australia,” she said.

“The Dawn Princess is huge, you can talk to someone at breakfast and never see them again.”

Other cruise ships visiting Albany this season are the Astor and Amadea.
