Fox tail shock

A local resident was disgusted and shocked after coming across 20 fox tails hanging from the fence of the Old Esplanade hotel site at Middleton Beach last Friday morning.

The fence was once the scene of a famous sock hanging protest to highlight neglect of the site.

Four complaints were made to the City of Albany about the fox tails on Friday, prompting quick action from ranger Rob Forster, who took them down at 9.30am.

A City spokesman said the decomposing tails were a health hazard.

Marlene, who did not want her surname published, came across the fox tails on her morning bike ride.

“At first I thought they were fake,” she said.

“When I realised they were real I was very distressed by it.”

It is not known who hung the fox tails on the fence.
