Housing forum open to public

Habitat for Humanity will hold a community forum next month as the not-for-profit organisation prepares to build its first home in the Goldfields.

Established in the region in 2010, Habitat for Humanity chairman Jon Price said the organisation helps make home ownership a reality for people who otherwise would be stuck in the “rental trap.”

“We focus on people in rental or housing stress,” Mr Price said.

“Where greater than 40 per cent of their income is going towards paying rent.”

The organisation’s first project will be built on a block of land in King Street, Boulder, which was gifted by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Mr Price said it was hoped construction of the house would be completed by early 2013.

A forum will be held from 1pm on Sunday at the Kalgoorlie Town Hall.
