Seniors encouraged to keep fit

Falls are preventable and are not the consequence of ageing is the new message being promoted by local health authorities.

Goldfields Population Health promotion officer Samarth Rao said simple changes in one’s life could be made to reduce the risk of a fall.

He said one in four people aged 60 years had experienced a fall.

However, measures such as exercise and attending one of the free workshops held in the week would help prevent these falls in the future.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder seniors are encouraged to attend a free Tai Chi class, eye screening and educational sessions at the Eastern Goldfields Community Centre to raise awareness of active ageing and falls prevention.
