Burglars, thieves targeted

Police have cracked down after a recent spate of burglaries in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, with more than 20 people arrested in connection with the crime wave.

More than 30 burglaries have been reported in Kalgoorlie-Boulder since the beginning of May, leading police to launch a special operation targeting thieves and burglars.

Called Operation Mondeo – the three-week blitz has resulted in a number of repeat offenders going back into police custody.

Uniformed police and detectives are also targeting streets and suburbs where numerous homes and vehicles have been targeted.

Forensic examination has also been employed to apprehend a number of the offenders. Detective Senior Sergeant Rod Wilde said police had charged 24 people with more than 48 offences.

“Any burglary is too many, but it was certainly a large spike, given the way we’d been travelling,” Det Sen Sgt Wilde said. “We commenced Operation Mondeo at the beginning of May, with the specific goal of targeting burglary and property offences.”
