Double the love, twice the fun

Double the love, twice the fun

You could put it down to a curious coincidence or something in the water, but 12 sets of twins were born in Geraldton last year — but that is not the most amazing part.

What’s more astonishing is that the 12 Geraldton mums have brought their tiny tots to the same playgroup.

The mums found each other via Facebook site Twinnies of Geraldton nine months ago and have since been getting together for regular meetings.

Alyce Bain, mum to Finn and Mason, said it was a lively playgroup.

“It’s a little bit chaotic sometimes,” she laughed.

“But it’s really amazing we’ve been able to find each other.

“Being a mum to twins is quite different to being a mum to just one child. It’s twice the feeding, twice the nappy changing, but it’s also twice the love and cuddles.

“These ladies all understand what it’s like and it’s fantastic we’ve now got somewhere we can go to laugh, cry and just talk to someone who understands.”

The tiny twins are aged between six and 15 months, and six of the pairs celebrate their first birthdays within three months of each other.

The group, which has an even split of boys and girls, got together on Friday for a joint birthday celebration.

Some mums and tots who stopped by included Chelsea Rowe with Lucy and Max, Leah Pettit with Jasmine and Lillie, Bronwyn Giles with Seth and Mia, Jackie Feeney with Jasmine and Ruby, Kellie Law with Brylee and Llewyn, Jamie Williamson with Cody and Riley, and Stacey Lawrie with Amelia and Lachlan.

Two of the sets are identical, but Mrs Bain said she’s never had any trouble telling her two apart.

“I’ve never had any trouble telling them apart, but I think things might be a bit different for the husbands,” she joked.

“If it ever becomes a problem at school, we can just dress them in different colours.

“But for now, I’m having way too much fun dressing them the same, which they’re definitely going to hate when they’re older.

“But really the past year has been one of the hardest and best of my life — and I think all the mums will say the same.”
