Police rush to aid of lucky Moogle in sea rescue

It was all hands on deck for the boys in blue when they undertook an unusual rescue in Carnarvon earlier this month.

Senior Constable Jeremy Dickerson and Const. Chris Yaxley were on patrol on Sunday, February 1 along the Fascine when local resident Janice Williams hailed them. She had seen a dog in distress as it tried to reach a catamaran which was sailing offshore.

“I was looking out the window when I saw this little dog who appeared to be struggling,” she said.

“It must have been 15-20 minutes.

“I said to my husband ‘give me the car keys’ and drove down to the Fascine, where I stopped the police officers and told them what I’d seen.

“Straight away, they asked a boat owner who was nearby to take them out to rescue the animal.

“I was really impressed they showed such concern about a little dog.”

Mrs Williams snapped a picture of the police officers and the boat owner before the officers took the lucky dog, Moogle, to the police station to recover.

A Facebook post from the station found a person who knew Moogle’s owner, who was full of praise for the police and happy to be reunited with the animal.
