L-plater allegedly drove toward oncoming police car

A Carnarvon learner driver will face court after he allegedly drove while intoxicated, with four flat tyres, on the wrong side of the road toward an oncoming police car.

The alleged incident happened about 11.20pm on January 23.

Police patrolling Robinson Street allegedly spotted the Holden Commodore travelling toward them on the wrong side of the road.

Officers then followed the car into Campbell Way, where it is alleged the driver stopped and tried to flee.

A 24-year-old was arrested soon after and charged with drink driving and breaching his learner's permit.

Police allege the man had a blood alcohol reading of 0.21, was not displaying L-plates, was not carrying his learner's permit and was not accompanied by a licensed driver.

He will appear before Carnarvon Magistrate's Court on February 2.

The car was still in Campbell Way today, where it was abandoned.

A Carnarvon Shire spokeswoman said the Shire would remove the vehicle this morning.
