Exmouth flood cuts road access, damages homes

Exmouth is mopping up this morning after 200mm of rain flooded the town yesterday, cutting road access, damaging homes and washing cars away.

The only access road into the town, the Exmouth Minilya Road, was closed, along with several roads within the townsite.

Drainage ditches overflowed and floodwater turned roads into raging rivers.

The closed roads are being reassessed this morning.

People are reminded that they must not go through road closed signs and that there are hefty penalties for doing so.

Shire of Exmouth acting CEO Jenny Kox said the Exmouth Minilya Road remained closed with floodwater still on the road between the Burkett Road turnoff and Preston Street in Exmouth.

"We will be looking to escort people between Exmouth and Learmonth Airport for flights, but are still assessing the situation," she said.
