Walk gets under way

Final stretches and goodbye kisses for family members were made as 58 women set off for Twilight Beach and beyond as the 100s and 1000s walk got under way on Saturday morning.

A large turnout of families and well-wishers gathered on the Esplanade to bid the participants farewell as they prepared to walk 100km over four days to raise money for a playground at the Esperance Hospital.

The event has been organised by the Rotary Club of Esperance Bay and president Greg Hard congratulated everyone for the effort they had put in.

“Now the tough times come, but I’m sure it will be fun along the way,” Mr Hard said.

“I would like to wish you all well on your walk.”

Organiser David Ford said the walk would start fairly easily, with the first section of the route heading out to Twilight Beach for lunch.
