Search for swimmer caught in rip

Police and surf lifesaving rescuers are searching for a swimmer who went missing off Yanchep yesterday evening.

The 30-year-old man was reported missing in the surf by his friend at 6.20pm yesterday. The friend told police the man had become stuck in a rip and he lost sight of the swimmer.

A search started last night but there was no sign of the missing man.

The search resumed in the water off Yanchep Lagoon Café carpark this morning with a Water Police vessel, three police divers, marine rescue volunteers and two WA Surf Lifesaving jet skis.

Police will address the media at 3pm today.
