Sun rises on Barr's 20 years

Natalie Barr's time at the Seven network has been such a whirlwind that she didn't even realise she was approaching her milestone 20th anniversary.

The popular Sunrise newsreader was raised in Bunbury, and cut her teeth at regional station GWN before spending time in Los Angeles in her early 20s and then moving to Sydney when a position came up at Seven.

When reminded of the anniversary by AAA Weekend, Barr recalled that she started as a freelancer in December 1994 and went full-time a few months later.

"Oh my goodness, I think I might be up for another long- service leave, I better check that," she laughed.

Barr, 46, added she might need to throw a party to celebrate the event.

"It's been such a whirlwind. I feel so lucky and thankful it's been such an amazing ride," she said.

Barr flew back to WA on Friday with the Sunrise team to attend Telethon for another year.

She said she had lost track of the number of times she had come to Perth for the charity event but it gave her lasting memories every time.

"It's a fun, amazing, busy, frantic weekend but the thing that really makes you realise why we are there is the hospital visit to PMH," Barr explained.

"Walking through those wards, different kids' faces stick in your mind. You remember them for years."

While Barr won't be making it back down south to see her family this time, she said she would be returning for Christmas with husband Andrew and sons Lachlan and Hunter.
