Actress Amanda Bynes has reportedly been kicked out of fashion school.

The Hairspray star enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Irvine, California last year shortly after she ended a lengthy rehabilitation stint in December.

Bynes was addmitted to rehab on an involuntary psychiatric hold following months of bizarre behaviour, which included arrests for DUI and drug possession.

According to celebrity gossip website TMZ.com, administrators at the fashion school dismissed Bynes in September because of her behaviour.

Student Rachel Loritz has told TMZ that Bynes would often skip class and when she attended she appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

The report comes two days after the actress was charged with driving under the influence of drugs after she was pulled over by California Highway Patrol officers in the San Fernando Valley.

She was later released after posting $US15,000 ($A16,229) bail.
