'''Wentworth

TODAY, 6.30PM, SoHo'''

It's tough and uncompromising, brutal at times and robust of language.

It is also a great piece of contemporary Australian television, returning tonight for the first episode of season two.

Pamela Rabe joins the cast as the new governor, Joan Ferguson (viewers of the original series will remember The Freak), whose aim is to clean up Wentworth - at any cost.

Rabe, relishing the role, said recently that it was rare for a woman to play the part of an amoral power-seeker, in the mould of Kevin Spacey in House of Cards and James Spader in The Blacklist.

Ferguson begins her reign by offering Frankie a deal, and she has plans for Bea Smith.
