Her violent attack on brother-in-law Jay-Z last week has become global news but the latest reports claim Solange Knowles lashed out at the rapper because he wanted to ditch Beyonce for Rihanna's party after the Met Ball.

Social media has been captivated by the infamous footage from inside an elevator at New York's glitzy The Standard Hotel, in which Solange is seen attacking the 44-year-old after they attended the glamorous gala together.

In the surveillance video, Beyonce is seen standing in the corner of the lift as her sister is restrained by a bodyguard after lashing out at Jay-Z.

Although there is no audio accompanying the footage, the New York Daily News reported the fight broke out after the rapper tried to go to Rihanna's party without his famous wife.

The Standard Hotel has issued a statement saying it will investigate the leak of the video and reprimand those responsible.

But other reports claimed that tensions had also mounted between the pair when two of Solange's friends crashed The Standard Hotel's party posing as Jay-Z's guests.

The 99 Problems performer then reportedly warned his sister-in-law: "Don't use my name."

Rumours are also circulating that Solange has removed all but one Instagram photo with her superstar sister, although sources have since shut down the reports as false.

Despite the media storm surrounding the assault saga, Beyonce and Jay-Z were all smiles when they appeared at a basketball game soon after the security video was leaked. The couple were snapped happy and chatting to each other as they watched the match in New York.
