Cate Blanchett has revealed she slept with her Oscar after her big win, joking it was the closest she and her husband had ever come to a threesome.

Just hours after her best actress win at the Academy Awards, 44-year-old Blanchett appeared on Ellen DeGeneres' TV talk show, telling the Oscars host that she had taken her golden statuette to bed with her the previous night.

"It's the closest my husband and I have ever come to a threesome," she exclaimed.

The Australian star also confessed she couldn't remember her acceptance speech - in which she praised the "extraordinary performances by women" - saying she was too shocked she had won. "I have no idea what I said . . . as long as it made sense, did I dribble? . . . I'm in the middle of hormone replacement therapy," she said.

Blanchett celebrated her big win at the traditional post-Oscar event, the Governors Ball, keeping her gold Armani Prive gown on for the event.

Her husband, Andrew Upton, told Sydney's ABC 702 radio yesterday they went to bed about 3.30am.

Blanchett also admitted to tipping down a few drinks with Julia Roberts in the bar during the Oscars ceremony and only just managed to get to her seat before the best actress Oscar was announced.
