Boulder residents Jeff and Dana Hogan believe they are among those affected by an alleged spate of Australia Post parcel thefts currently being investigated by police.

The incident occurred last year, when Mrs Hogan discovered a courier slip in her letterbox for an undelivered parcel.

“They just said it wasn’t there, and that it must still be with the courier or postie,” Mr Hogan said, explaining what occurred when he went to the Forrest Street delivery centre in Kalgoorlie.

“I went back the next day and they said it still wasn’t there — this went on for about a week and a half.”

Speaking to the Kalgoorlie Miner this week, Mr Hogan spoke of his frustration at not being able to describe the size of the parcel, or even say what was in it.

He believes it was a present from his wife’s family who live overseas.

The Hogans called the Australia Post customer service line and an operator told them the reference number on the card which was left in their letterbox was invalid and couldn’t be traced.

A few months passed before the Hogans received a letter from the Government-owned postal service, informing them that because of the amount of parcels they received, Australia Post was likely to incur losses and damages.

Australia Post was asked for the number of parcels reported missing in Kalgoorlie-Boulder but said they could not comment on an ongoing police investigation.

The Kalgoorlie Miner revealed on Monday that drivers contracted to Australia Post for parcel deliveries had been suspended after a number of alleged parcel thefts sparked a police investigation.

Customers concerned about parcel deliveries are encouraged to contact Australia Post on 13 11 18.
