Baby found in alleged pursuit car

Baby found in pursued car

A Holden Commodore allegedly pursued by police south of Perth early this morning was found to have a nine-month baby strapped in the back seat.

Police allege the driver of the Holden Commodore failed to stop at a RBT stop, ran a red light, wove through traffic and came into contact with a police car before being stopped by officers.

Officers were carrying out random breath testing on Dixon Road in Rockingham around 1.25am when they attempted to stop a Holden Commodore.

A police spokeswoman said it would be alleged that the driver indicated he would stop for police, but then accelerated away.

"Officers then entered their vehicle and followed the car," the police spokeswoman said.

"It continued to evade police as it continued south along Ennis Avenue, allegedly travelling through a red traffic light and weaving throughout traffic.

"At one point, the car also came into contact with a police vehicle.

"Police were able to stop the vehicle after around 13 minutes."

Officers allegedly found a male driver and three adult passengers in the vehicle, along with a nine-month old baby restrained in the back seat.

The driver of the vehicle (and also the father of the baby) is an 18-year-old man of Mandurah.

He has been charged with Fail to Stop, Reckless Driving, No Authority to Drive and Excess 0.02.

He will appear in court at a later date.

The mother of the baby was also one of the passengers in the vehicle.
