Frozen sequel to hit cinemas in 2015

The characters from smash-hit Disney movie Frozen are heading back to the big screen for an animated short.

The big news was announced at the end of a 'making of' special that aired in the US on Tuesday night.

Frozen Fever will be directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the pair behind last year's Oscar-winning movie, and is due for release in 2015.

Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad will reprise their original Frozen roles in the new film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"In Frozen Fever, it's Anna's birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa's icy powers may put more than just the party at risk," a Disney spokesman said.

Frozen Fever will also feature a new song written by Academy Award-winning songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

The married couple created instant classic songs Let It Go and Do You Want to Build a Snowman? for Frozen.
