Youngs to divorce

Neil Young is divorcing wife Pegi after 36 years of marriage.

The 68-year-old rocker filed a petition to dissolve his marriage to the 61-year-old singer, with whom he has son Ben and daughter Amber, in San Mateo, California on July 29.

A preliminary hearing will reportedly take place on December 12.

A spokesperson for the former couple, above, who tied the knot in 1978 and first met when Pegi was a waitress at a diner near Neil's ranch, declined to comment.

Pegi, who was the inspiration for some of Neil's most romantic hits, including Once an Angel and Unknown Legend, began working as his back-up singer after making her debut with him at the Oscars in 1994.

They last performed together at their annual Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California, in October.
