Dad charged with assaulting infant son

A father is accused of assaulting his eight-month-old son and causing him life-threatening head injuries.

Wheatbelt detectives allege the father inflicted head and facial injuries on the infant at the family’s Kellerberrin home on Monday.

The boy’s mother found the baby limp and unresponsive when she returned home on Monday afternoon, police claim.

She rushed the boy to Kellerberrin Hospital for treatment about 4pm and he was later flown to Princess Margaret Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

He is in a stable condition after having surgery for head injuries.

Wheatbelt detectives have charged the 39-year-old father with aggravated grievous bodily harm.

He will appear in Merredin Magistrates Court on August 19.
