Dark Horses confident in run home

Lisa Lamond and Adam Dovile are hoping to prove that nice guys finish first as House Rules gears up for its grand finale this weekend.

The engaged Melbourne couple will go head-to-head with Perth Hills pair Carole and Russell Bramston in one final challenge on Sunday night before the victorious team will have their mortgage wiped clean.

While they struggled in the early stages of the competition, Lamond and Dovile endeared viewers with their transformation during the Seven series as they built up confidence and began pulling in high scores for their renovation work.

They were even dubbed this year's dark horses by the show's judges - a title that Lamond said she embraced.

"I think we have proven we are the dark horses and we hope we are the nice guys too - they don't always finish last," the human resources manager told Access All Areas.

"Being called the dark horses was always in the back of our minds and it has been a bit of a driving force. It gave us a lot of hope."

Ousted contestants Candy Stuart and Ryan Pusic, who this week missed out on a place in the top two, have thrown their support behind Lamond and Dovile to win, saying the Victorians deserve top honours based on their growth throughout the competition.

Dovile said having the blessing of their former co-stars meant a lot.

"Obviously it is a competition but we have played a lot of sport in our lives and you can be best mates with your competitor - your competitor doesn't have to be someone you don't like," the builder explained.

"We wanted to make friends with our competition because they were nice people and we were very lucky to do this with them."

But Lamond still believes they will have to pull out their best work to beat team *WA *, the Bramstons.

"Carole and Russell have a lot of support and I think they are feeling pretty confident," she said.

"But I like to hope that people will support us and see us as a couple who have given everything."

Dovile added: "What our aim was for this last challenge was to really show how far we have come."

Sunday night's final verdict will be a combination of judges' scores from the last renovation and votes from the public, who have been asked to choose their favourite duo based on their work throughout the whole series. Votes can be cast by visiting yahoo7.com.au/houserules.
