Anzac spirit shown

The sound of trotting hooves drew students to the oval at Warnbro Community High School earlier this month when the 10th Light Horse Bunbury Troop rode in.

The visit was part of the school’s Anzac Day commemoration ceremony, held on May 1.

Students watched two troops demonstrate battle techniques before having a chance to meet the horses Missy and Kansas.

Rockingham cadet Sergeant Michelle Eddy said it was great to see members of the community come together at the school to commemorate the fallen soldiers.

Principal Kya Graves said the school’s Anzac Day service was well attended and moving.

“Students involved were attentive to the messages being given and all seemed moved by the speeches given by our distinguished guests,” she said.

Ms Graves said the assembly included addresses by Warnbro MLA Paul Papalia and Navy Commander Andrew Nelson.

“Navy Chaplain John Marshall recited the ode for the service and New Zealand soldiers were represented by Chief Petty Officer Mark Jolly, Sergeant Daniel Green and Warrant Officer Dan Epiha,” she said.

“Special thanks are given for the involvement of the 10th Light Horsemen, who provided a wonderful display at the conclusion of the ceremony.”
