A hunt is on for the owner of a peacock found wandering the streets of Westminster on Tuesday.

A member of the public alerted the RSPCA and the bird is currently being held at the organisation's centre in Malaga.

RSPCA chief inspector Amanda Swift said it was not every day they were called out for a peacock.

"People do need to ensure that they are adhering to local council laws in relation to the type of animal and housing that can be legally required when keeping animals such as a peacock, or more commonly, chickens," she said.

"These animals do have specific space and husbandry needs."

Anyone who has recently lost a peacock can contact RSPCA on 9209 9300.
