Homicide detectives are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old man in a remote community north of Broome.

A 44-year-old woman, who knows the young man, is in custody assisting with inquiries after police were called to the One Arm Point community in the Dampier Peninsula about 3.40pm yesterday.

Emergency services were called to reports the 20-year-old was unconscious and had a suspected stab wound.

Local police and medical staff performed CPR but could not revive the man.
Major crime squad detectives and forensic officers from Perth are travelling to the community today to help Broome Detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

“We really don’t know much at this particular time, we are really just trying to ascertain what happened,” Det. Sen. Sgt Kevin Bradshaw said. “Broome detectives are already here and we are expecting Major Crime here sometime today.”

The Perth officers are expected to arrive in the community this afternoon.
