Police in wild chase through suburbs

Several police cars were involved in a wild chase through Perth streets last night as a driver drove across an oval and turned off his vehicle's lights in a bid to get away.

The chase started in Thornlie after police clocked a driver travelling at 101km/h in a 60km/h zone.

The driver allegedly failed to stop when police tried to apprehend him on Yale Road just after 11pm.

Police chased the vehicle through several streets around Yale Road as several other police cars were called in to help.

The driver allegedly switched off the vehicle headlights, mounted median islands, drove on footpaths and garden beds, and drove across an oval until the vehicle finally stopped in a car park after driving through a large ditch.

The driver was arrested.

Police say the man failed a breath test and was driving without a licence.

A 22-year-old Huntingdale man as been charged with failing to stop, reckless driving, excess 0.05 and no authority to drive.

He is due to appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court on February 20.
