Wheely good news for Kwinana bikes

Kwinana bikes are in for a facelift in the coming weeks thanks to the Dismantle Bike Rescue Project which kicked off last week.

For 10 weeks participants will be involved in a series of workshops where they will learn all aspects of bike mechanics and restoration.

The community project between the Town of Kwinana, Dismantle, CCIWA/SMYL and Bridging the Gap Inc saw old bikes collected from Kwinana residents in March. Once they have been restored by the participants, who will complete the Better Futures Certificate 1 in Workshop Preparation, they will be donated to a local organisation, but participants will also get to keep one.

Sean Davidson, 18, is one of the participants of the Dismantle Bike Rescue Project who spent Friday afternoon inspecting the collected bikes and said he was excited to get started.

‘‘I like playing on bikes so it’ll be fun’’ he said.

‘‘I think I’ll donate both my bikes when we’re finished.’’
