Video has emerged of the heartbreaking moment a devastated dog realises she’s been surrendered to a dog shelter.
Electra, a four-year-old pitbull-terrier mix, was given to the Inland Valley Humane Society animal shelter in California on May 18.
Lolys Menchaka, an animal rights advocate, shared the video on Facebook, which has since received more than 280,000 views and 10,000 shares.
Footage shows Electra staring right at the camera through the gate, ears flopped down, crushed and frightened.
She carefully takes a step forward and looks around.
“Electra represents the face of sadness and reality in the shelters,” Lolys Menchaka said of the video.
The video has tugged at the heartstrings of viewers calling for the dog to be adopted.
“Heartbreak to see such a sad face,” Monika Fuchs commented.
“Poor sweet thing wants love but is too afraid to trust that it’s real. My heart breaks for her!” Dianne Hall Foldvik commented.
The video did result in a happy ending, as Electra has since been adopted.
