Mum runs over 12-year-old son at school carpark

A 12-year-old boy has been hospitalised after he was run over by his mother in his school’s carpark.

The student got out of the car at Crockett Elementary in Texas, in the United States, when he dropped his school bag, according to local news outlet KRISTV.

As the boy was picking up some papers that had fallen out of the bag, his mum drove away from the kerb accidentally running over him in the process.

A police officer told KRISTV parents should ideally be escorting their child into the school.

“In a situation like this, what you should do is probably get out of the car with your child and make sure that he or she is clear of the vehicle and on their way to class before you decide to take off,” Richard Olden, from the Corpus Christi Police Department, said.

Thankfully the boy’s injuries were not life-threatening and he was taken to hospital as a precaution.
