Teen's horrific injuries after being 'attacked' during first week of high school

A 13-year-old Perth girl has ended her first week of high school with a black eye after she was allegedly punched and kicked in the face by another student.

Jodie Ninyette claims teachers at Swan View Senior High School have lost control after an incident on Friday left her daughter Vanessa with a swollen and bruised forehead.

“It happens that often up at the school — these fights — I feel something has to be done to protect our kids,” she said.

Ms Ninyette has raised her concerns about the school’s ongoing playground violence to the education department but she said they ultimately “go nowhere”.

Ms Ninyette claims friends were pulling children out of the school to get them away from the environment.

She said something needed to be changed in the system so teachers had more control over students and punishment was harsher for students.

The Education Department said that staff at the school take such incidents very seriously and that those responsible for partaking or filming in such incidents face expulsion.

“[The school tries to] maintain a safe and orderly environment to provide a good education to all children and take action when needed,” the department said.
