'We were told she may not make it': Teenager who fell 10 metres while hiking makes incredible recovery
A teenager who fell 10 metres while hiking in Victoria's Grampians has made a remarkable recovery.
The schoolgirl was on her Year 8 school camp when she tripped, landing face first on rocks.
Faith Butt, 13, was knocked unconscious after landing in remote bushland.
She was there for five hours as rescuers struggled to reach her.
"It took about 30 or 40 [people] to walk up a hill to find her, and then they tried to stretcher her out because the helicopter couldn't get to where she was," her mother Barbara said.
With critical head and chest injuries, she was flown to the Royal Children's Hospital, where she was stabilised and put on life support.
"I knew then it was very serious," Faith's mother said. "We were told she may not make it."

It took about 50 days for Faith to wake up and initially there were concerns her speech and movement may be affected, Dr Juliet Clayton said.
Although the teenager has had to learn to walk and talk again, her recovery has surprised everyone.
"She's the most determined person I've ever met," Faith's mother said.
And despite her ordeal, Faith still has a smile on her face.
