Teen, 19, found in 'distressed' state before suspected drug overdose death

A 19-year-old man who died after a Sydney dance party was found in a ‘distressed’ state at a train station before being hospitalised.

The teenager was among more than 18,000 people who attended the Knockout Games of Destiny Dancy Party at Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush, in the city’s west, on Saturday night.

Police revealed he was found at a nearby railway station and admitted to Concord Hospital at 1.26am on Sunday.

“That young man was found in a distressed state at the railway station nearby,”
Peter Thurtell, Assistant Commissioner of the South West Metropolitan Region Commander, said.

“He was attended to by medical staff and taken to Concord Hospital.

“At this stage, we’re not able to say how many drugs the young man took but obviously it was fatal.”

The teenager died about 4.30am, NSW police said in a statement.

‘We have another family grieving’

Police have not released his identity to respect his family’s privacy.

“It’s terrible. We have another family grieving,” Assistant Commissioner Thurthall said.

Assistant Commissioner Thurthall said the majority of drugs were MDMA and provided updates on three other people who are critically ill after the dance party.

“In addition to that family, we have another three families whose young ones are in hospital,” Assistant Commissioner Thurthall said.

“Two of which have only just come out of induced comas, another one is still in an induced coma.”

The man and two women aged 19 and 25 remain in a critical condition at Westmead Hospital.
