Teacher caught attempting to secretly film primary school students

An Adelaide teacher has been investigated after he installed a hidden camera to film primary school students in the classroom.

The Education Department says the male teacher at the school was trying to manage their behaviour but parents are furious they weren’t told.

The disturbing find was made by a fellow teacher inside one of the school’s classrooms.

“I’m disgusted because we don’t know what the intent was behind the recordings regardless of whatever intent he gave to the school,” one mother said.

Some parents have been told it was hidden.

“He apparently told the children that it was in situ, however it was hidden,” the mother added.

In a letter to parents the school confirmed the incident, ‘involving the unauthorised use of technology to manage student behaviour’.

The school says the teacher told his students about the camera.

“It’s probably important that parents are aware if a class is being recorded. I think it would be good to let the parents know,” another parent said.

Other parents didn’t believe there was any need for it full stop.

The Education Department was alerted last month and immediately launched an investigation, which found the camera malfunctioned and no footage was actually captured.

The Department says while the teacher’s actions are unacceptable, it’s convinced there was no malicious intent.

While it says action has been taken against the teacher involved it is understood he’ll keep his job.
