Taylor vs Catterall 2 LIVE! Boxing result, fight stream, latest updates and reaction after thrilling rematch
Taylor vs Catterall 2 - LIVE!
Jack Catterall produced a superb performance to beat Josh Taylor on points in a long-awaited grudge match, though admitted it was a “bittersweet” night in Leeds. The British rivals first fought two years ago, when Taylor won a hugely controversial points decision to retain his undisputed super-lightweight status and deny Catterall the chance to become world champion.
A much-anticipated rematch, the biggest British fight of the year, produced an ever better bout, one that Catterall took charge of in the early stages with a stiff jab and a succession of left hands. Scorecards of 117-111, 117-111, and 116-113 in favour of the Englishman were, at least in two cases, surprisingly wide, but this was a deserved victory for Catterall, even if there were no belts on the line as reward.
“It’s bittersweet tonight,” Catterall admitted. “I won the fight, no world titles, we can close that chapter with Josh Taylor.”

The three cards

Insight into how the judges scored it tonight.
Not quite sure how two of them gave the third round to Catterall, but it’s all very subjective.
Think 116-113 was a fair card. The other two are very wide.

Bellew hits out at scoring
Sunday 26 May 2024 00:14 , Matt Verri
Tony Bellew has criticised the judges, believing the cards were far too wide.
"The judges are gonna cloud Catterall's moment,” he told DAZN.
“I had it a really close fight. That 117-111 twice is a disgrace. Two wrongs don't make a right.
:Just because wrong was done to Catterall two years ago, doesn't make it right to do that to Taylor tonight."
Post-fight thoughts from Taylor
Sunday 26 May 2024 00:01 , Matt Verri
"I thought it was a great fight, fair play to jack he boxed a better fight tonight but I thought I just nicked it.
"Given the controversy in the first fight that's probably what played into the judges' minds. But let's do a third one.
"If he wants to go on and challenge for bigger fights he deserves it, but I think that's one apiece. Let's do a trilogy."

Arum: Scorecards a disgrace
Saturday 25 May 2024 23:48 , Matt Verri
Promoter Bob Arum has snatched the microphone.
“Those scorecards were a disgrace, an absolute disgrace. I thought Josh Taylor won the fight.
“I will never let an American fighter come here with the British board scoring the fight.”
Taking it well, then.
Taylor unhappy...
Saturday 25 May 2024 23:46 , Matt Verri
Josh Taylor clearly unimpressed with the cards.
A couple of them were probably a bit too wide, but no doubt that the result was the correct one.

Right then. The scorecards.
117-111. 117-111. 116-113.
All in favour... of Jack Catterall!
Crucial moment?
Saturday 25 May 2024 23:40 , Matt Verri
Taylor was on the charge, threatening to come from behind and really turn the fight around.
But Catterall landed that massive left hand in the 11th, surely enough to take that round and potentially the fight.

Taylor vs Catterall 2
Saturday 25 May 2024 23:39 , Matt Verri
Round 12
Three minutes to decide it. I hesitate to say it... but you’d imagine Catterall will take this fight if he can survive the round.
Taylor needs it to have any hope, and it’s a sharp combination to start.
Catterall is trying to tie Taylor up, suggests he thinks he’s done enough. No interest in taking any risks.
Saying that... here he comes! Two, three left hands, brilliant counter shots.
One minute to go, Taylor marching forward. But again he’s tagged by Catterall, that left hand is delivering again.
Ten seconds... and there’s the final bell. Catterall has to have it.
I’ve got it 116-112 Catterall, could easily see 115-113 though.

Round 11
Are we on course for another tight decision on the cards? Could do without more controversy involving these two!
Taylor needs these last two rounds, surely. Catterall can make sure of it if he takes them.
Taylor with the sharper work in the opening minute, he definitely looks the fresher of the two. Come on strong in the second half of this bout.
MASSIVE LEFT HAND! Catterall lands flush on Taylor, rocked him to his boots.
And then rugby tackles him to the floor, gives Taylor a few seconds to recover.
And another left, Catterall has found a second win. Taylor rattled, 30 seconds to go in the round.
That could prove to be a decisive round for Catterall.

Round 10
Referee has a word with both fighters before the start of the round. Would think that’s about the repeated clash of heads.
Better from Catterall, that jab is starting to become a factor again. If nothing else, it’s slowing Taylor down and stopping him marching forward.
It’s a less action-packed round, but that’s suiting Catterall just fine. Moving around the ring on the back foot, staying out of trouble and flicking out the jab.
Got to have Catterall up - I’ve got it 6-4 in his favour.

Round 9
“You can do this all night,” is the message from Taylor’s corner. They are keen to emphasise he is the fitter man.
But Catterall is on the charge! He suddenly steps it up, Taylor forced to cover up as the double jab is followed by that left hook.
Catterall staggers back slightly, as Taylor continues to force the issue. The Scot needs to keep his foot on the gas, the higher tempo is working for him.
Two right hooks, Catterall bounces back off the ropes. Fatigue definitely starting to set in, heading into the final rounds.
Round is right in the balance - big exchange on the bell! Both lands clean shots, tough to score that one.
Taylor vs Catterall 2
Saturday 25 May 2024 23:22 , Matt Verri
Round 8
Stiff right from Taylor - think there’s a decent argument that Catterall is starting to tire. That jab isn’t as sharp, the left hand not finding a way through the Taylor defences.
It’s Taylor forcing the pace, right hook bringing him success. He is walking Catterall down - momentum has certainly shifted.
Uppercut from Taylor, before he misses with a wild left hook.
He raises his glove in the air on the way to the corner, certainly his round. Got it 5-3 Catterall now.
Taylor vs Catterall 2
Saturday 25 May 2024 23:18 , Matt Verri
Round 7
“How’s it going?” Taylor asks his corner. Not well, I would suggest.
There is a bit more intent from him in this round, Catterall has slowed down slightly. Right hook from Taylor, catches Catterall as he bends down.
Left to the body from Taylor, but he’s then tagged with the jab. And then the left from Catterall - there it is again.
Taylor lands a great left of his own though, he’s definitely upping the pressure now. More work to the body, too.
Right hook to the body, straight left and Catterall is being slowed down a bit. That’s a really positive round for the Scottish man.
Taylor vs Catterall 2
Saturday 25 May 2024 23:14 , Matt Verri
Round 6
Double jab from Taylor, but he’s not doing enough to really make Catterall think. More swelling to that right eye for Taylor - like a magnet for Catterall’s left hand.
Another clash of heads, Taylor checks for cut. No blood, but that swelling is going to become an issue.
Left hook from Catterall, having so much joy with that shot. Taylor’s right hand isn’t high enough and he’s still leaving himself open.
This is really dominant stuff from Catterall, absolutely sensational so far. I’ve got him 5-1 up at halfway. Taylor being picked apart with the left hand.
Taylor vs Catterall 2
Saturday 25 May 2024 23:10 , Matt Verri
Round 5
It’s a pretty big lump above Taylor’s right eye, from that earlier head clash.
Catterall has flown out from his corner at the start of this round, he’s tagging Taylor at will. The Scot’s head being snapped back.
Left hand straight through, and then the right! Taylor is covering up and back onto the ropes, he really felt that. Catterall is well on top.
Good response from Taylor, turning to the body and it’s two or three vicious shots fired in.
Catterall comes back, that jab has been superb. HUGE! Straight right, massive uppercut and Taylor staggers back onto the ropes.
Catterall looks to jump all over him... there’s the bell. Taylor was in real trouble.
Taylor vs Catterall 2
Saturday 25 May 2024 23:06 , Matt Verri
Round 4
Taylor’s corner tell him he’s 2-1 up. Think it might be the other way round.
Catterall again sits back on the ropes, allows Taylor to throw in a right hook.
But Catterall responds with a straight left, backed up with a double jab.
Nothing in this round at all - Catterall very nearly lands a massive left hand, but Taylor just about stops it landing flush. That left is the danger.
Catterall taking control again, strong final 20 seconds. Establishing that jab once more and then thunders a left hand through defences. Got to think he’s up on the cards.
The fight is not disappointing!

Round 3
And Taylor spins away again after another clash of heads. Not happy. Does look to be a lump on the side of his head.
Catterall so composed, just waiting for his moments to counter when Taylor jumps in.
THAT GETS THROUGH THOUGH!
Taylor with a brilliant left hand, that staggers Catterall. And they both hold their feet and trade, brilliant exchange!
Catterall’s face has been marked up, under that left eye. This fight never more than a few seconds away from exploding into an all-out war.
Much better round for Taylor.
Taylor vs Catterall 2
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:58 , Matt Verri
Round 2
Taylor comes out from his corner with real purpose. Knows he was second best in the opening three minutes.
But Catterall can’t miss with that jab, Taylor a bit desperate as he keeps lunging in.
And the referee halts it - there’s been a clash of heads. Both jumped back and immediately checked to see if they had been cut. Looks like both got away with it.
Catterall right back on the ropes as Taylor jumps in, almost sat down on them. Spins out of trouble though and lands a great left hand.
Taylor is in the centre of the ring but the better work is coming from Catterall. This bout living up to expectations - real intensity to it.
Taylor closes the distance, gets caught again. His balance doesn’t look great.
Taylor vs Catterall 2
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:53 , Matt Verri
Round 1
Catterall with the first solid punch, jab forces Taylor back onto the ropes. The Scot definitely looks more drained in the face.
Loses his balance, does Catterall, as he moves forward. Taylor tries to jump forward, but his legs are stiffened by a left hook.
And another left hand, but it’s matched this time by a right from Taylor.
Catterall establishing that jab, really confident start. Taylor is regularly being knocked back. Catterall’s round.
DING DING!

We’re up and running in the main event!
Taylor vs Catterall 2. Let’s go.
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:50 , Matt Verri
Official atmosphere description: Loud.
Boos, cheers, whistles... bit of everything. Catterall maybe just about has a bit more support, but not much in it.
Taylor with some more shadow boxing in the ring, can’t stop bouncing around. Desperate to start.
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:46 , Matt Verri
Taylor with a fair bit of shadow boxing, taking his sweet time to eventually start moving towards the ring. Long wait for Catterall as expected.
Would say Taylor’s face already looks marked up. Not necessarily anything new, but certainly noticeable.
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:44 , Matt Verri
I thought there were plenty of boos for Catterall - there are even more for Taylor.
Maybe the people of Leeds just like booing.
My attempt at ‘body language analysis’ is that Taylor looks a bit more edgy. Nodding to anyone who will look at him as trudges through the car park.
Here he is - and it’s more boos.
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:42 , Matt Verri
Dear me, proper commute this for Catterall. Could do with a golf buggy.
He’s finally emerged inside the arena. Looks very relaxed - wouldn’t expect anything else.
Imagine Taylor is going to make him wait in that ring for as long as possible now.
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:39 , Matt Verri
First up - Jack Catterall!
It’s a healthy mix of cheers and boos. Think the latter might just edge it, there’s plenty of Scots in the building.
Catterall swiftly winning the crowd over though, as he walks to Stand By Me. Tune.
It's time!
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:37 , Matt Verri
Sweet Caroline done, montages done.
They’ve delayed it long enough, at long last it’s time to get the fighters in the ring. Won’t find a better atmosphere than this for two neutral fighters.

This is neutral territory, but both fighters have brought plenty of fans along with them.

Taylor must improve
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:26 , Matt Verri
It’s been a long time since we saw the very best of Josh Taylor.
Obviously had that controversy with Jack Catterall in the first right, and Taylor has fought just once since that bout two years ago.
That was a defeat to Teofimo Lopez last June - how much does Taylor have left in the tank?
We’re about to find out.
Next up... the big one!

Not sure why the referee bothered counting, Ellis Zorro was never getting up from that.

Clarke vs Zorro
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:15 , Matt Verri
Round 8
Still not exactly all-action - crowd haven’t really got engaged with this one.
Clarke having some spells of success, but then gets frustrated again. We’re currently in the latter.
Sharp jab there though from Clarke, and then a right uppercut on the inside.
It does suddenly burst into life in the final seconds... ZORRO DOWN!
Right on the bell, huge shot from Clarke.
And it’s waved off. Hit the canvas as the bell sounded, Zorro can’t get up. Clarke with the stoppage win! That all happened very quickly.
Clarke vs Zorro
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:09 , Matt Verri
Round 7
Overhand right from Clarke is landing, for all Zorro is trying to impose himself a bit more on the fight.
He’s closing the distance, but that’s not giving him any room to get clean shots away. Messy in the clinch.
Good spell this for Zorro, straight right and then left to the body. Clarke has eased right off the pace.
Still got him 5-2 up.
Clarke vs Zorro
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:04 , Matt Verri
Round 6
Clarke’s corner tell him that Zorro is slowing down - we shall see.
Zorro his balance there, glancing down at the ring in an attempt to find something to blame,
Clarke marching forward, punishing shots to the body and backs it up with an uppercut.
Time out called by the referee, worried about a head clash as the fighters clinch.
Clarke is getting frustrated with how often he is being tied up, but he’s in control at halfway.
Clarke vs Zorro
Saturday 25 May 2024 22:01 , Matt Verri
Round 5
Zorro having a better round here, having been fired up by his corner.
Two big right hands land, Clarke is leaving himself open to those. Can’t afford to take those risks.
Clarke throws two a couple of left hooks from distance, Zorro ducks under them.
Final seconds of the round, Zorro throws everything at the uppercut... at thin air.
Clarke vs Zorro
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:57 , Matt Verri
Round 4
Left hook, overhand right from Clarke. Sharp combination, more like it.
And again, he’s starting to dictate the pace and firing in more spiteful shots. Left to the body is a good one.
Zorro warned as he continues to clinch, desperately trying to stop Clarke working on the inside.
Clarke’s round. He’s at least 3-1 up, you’d think.
Clarke vs Zorro
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:53 , Matt Verri
Round 3
Intent from Clarke right from the start, bit more purpose to his work.
Zorro tries to land the right uppercut as Clarke walks in, misses. Happy to tie Clarke up the next time he closes the distance.
Clarke throws his head back in frustration, as he lunges in and misses with a wild left hook. Struggling to find his range.
Zorro doing a good job of stopping Clarke from finding any rhythm.
Clarke vs Zorro
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:49 , Matt Verri
Round 2
Little to get the crowd excited so far.
Zorro coming into the fight a bit more, holding his feet in the middle of the ring. Still fairly messy.
Danger of a clash of heads, as they continue to regularly clinch.
Better from Zorro, confidence is growing. Nothing yet particularly flush from either fighter.
Clarke vs Zorro
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:45 , Matt Verri
Round 1
Confident start from Clarke, he’s the busier fighter in the very early stages.
All very cagey from Zorro - no surprise after he was knocked out in the opening round in his last fight.
Referee has been regularly involved already, having to break them up. Left hook right on the bell from Clarke, but didn’t land cleanly.
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:40 , Matt Verri
Clarke dancing and singing his way into the ring. His routine abruptly interrupted as the referee comes over for a quick check.
Fair to say Clarke does not appear to be particularly nervous. That or he’s a very good actor.
Here we go then - fan support is firmly behind Clarke. He’s brought plenty of supporters along.
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:35 , Matt Verri
Clarke 8-0, Zorro 17-1 with his sole defeat coming in December when he was stopped inside a round by Jai Opetaia.
That was a massive step up for him - chance for him to bounce back immediately.
Zorro is on his way to the ring.
One more to go!

Donovan vs Ritson
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:21 , Matt Verri
Round 9
It’s waved off!
Barely 30 seconds into the round and the referee has seen enough.
Ritson was taking more and more punishment, he has no complaints as the referee steps in.
Really impressive from Donovan, went through the gears superbly.
Donovan vs Ritson
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:19 , Matt Verri
Round 8
Clear shift in tactics from Donovan - he’s stopped shifting onto that back foot. Holding his feet and forcing Ritson back.
And the Irishman is really stepping it up, two, three, four shots land flush. Ritson trying to fire back but he’s struggling on the ropes.
Big uppercut gets through from Donovan, and another one. Ritson needs to get out of the corner.
Donovan throwing everything at this now, Ritson tries to find the clinch but he’s shoved away. Sitting back on the ropes and in big trouble now.
Uppercut is thundering through Ritson’s defences too, more good work from Donovan to the body too.
Right hook on the bell - Ritson makes it to the bell. That was a brilliant round from Donovon.
Donovan vs Ritson
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:15 , Matt Verri
Round 7
Left hook from Donovan - decides not to keep pushing forward. Content to land single punches.
Decent work from Ritson to the body, but Donovan responds with another crisp left hand.
He’s moving into the centre of the ring now, and looks much better for it. Ritson starting to get caught more regularly.
Another body shot in the final seconds of the round from Ritson, but that was not a great round for him.
Donovan vs Ritson
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:12 , Matt Verri
Round 6
Donovan down... but he is very grateful to look up and see the referee indicating it was a tangle of legs.
Irishman’s footwork has otherwise been very impressive, prevented Ritson from being able to sustain his attacks.
Signs that Donovan is starting to throw a bit more, lands a right hook after being caught himself.
Ritsen maybe starting to tire a bit? Donovan 4-2 up on our very official card.
Donovan vs Ritson
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:07 , Matt Verri
Round 5
Have to feel Donovan has plenty more in the tank, but still feels as though he’s coasting.
Ritson slips as he continues to close the distance, he’s not enjoying as much success in this round.
Donovan picking his shots from range, not getting backed into the corner as much.
Halfway stage of the bout, it hasn’t really burst into life yet.
Donovan vs Ritson
Saturday 25 May 2024 21:03 , Matt Verri
Round 4
Fairly obvious that Andy Lee is not hugely impressed with what he saw from Donovan in the third. Tells the Irishman he “gave it away”.
Ritson is growing in confidence, closing the distance without any real fear of what’s coming back. Donovan has been on the back foot for the entirety of the fight.
Sharp uppercut on the bell from Donovan - might be enough to edge a very even round.
Donovan vs Ritson
Saturday 25 May 2024 20:59 , Matt Verri
Round 3
Great combination work from Donovan, landing to head and body and there’s no response from Ritson.
Newcastle fighter has to change something. Moving forward, not really throwing anything and there to be hit.
More like it - “lovely Lewis” is the shout from the corner as the right hand gets through.
This is Ritson’s best spell of the fight, success to the body and then catches the head of Donovan with a stiff jab.
Ritson increased the work-rate in the final 90 seconds of the round and that is enough to take it.
Donovan vs Ritson
Saturday 25 May 2024 20:55 , Matt Verri
Round 2
Andy Lee calling for the one-two from Donovan, who obliges within seconds.
Pattern of the bout is set. Ritson the one in centre ring, plodding forward but it’s Donovan with the sharper, cleaner work.
Not a huge amount being thrown from either man so far, but Donovan has probably taken both rounds without really doing much.
Donovan vs Ritson
Saturday 25 May 2024 20:51 , Matt Verri
Round 1
Move up to 147lbs is a good one for Ritson, you’d think. Was such a struggle for him to make weight.
Donovan is waiting on the back foot, knows his moments will come to counter as Ritson moves in.
The Newcastle man lands a left hand, but he is leaving himself open for the uppercut. Feel like that’s going to be a decisive punch in this bout.
Tight first round, neither taking any risks.
All got a bit heated...
Saturday 25 May 2024 20:46 , Matt Verri
Ritson and Donovan got to know each other at close quarters at yesterday’s weigh in. Bit of a head-butt from Ritson.
Donovan comes into this bout full of confidence, he’s looked so impressive under Andy Lee.

Patera needs to throw the kitchen sink at this, but there’s no real sign of it.
He’s trying to move forward, but Cully doing a good job of keeping him at arm’s length.
More like there from Patera, gets a right hand through. And then a left hook, here is the last burst with 20 seconds to go.
Right hook right on the bell, but Cully untroubled.
That should be job done - 97-93 on our card.

Saturday 25 May 2024 20:21 , Matt Verri
Round 9
Into the final six minutes we go.
Cully doing a decent job of muscling Patera away, whenever the Belgian tries to get to work up close.
Right hook lands as Patera steps in, Cully firmly in control of this bout. Doesn’t need to take any risks.
And he’s not, dancing around the ring. Cully boxing really nicely.
Cully vs Patera
Saturday 25 May 2024 20:17 , Matt Verri
Round 8
Three rounds to go. Swelling under the left eye of Patera, nothing too serious though.
Straight right from Patera, one of his best of the fight. Cully takes it well.
And another one, but Cully responds with an uppercut on the inside. Both starting to enjoy more success.
Blood from the nose of Patera now, that uppercut landed flush. There’s the left uppercut again from Cully, has slowed Patera down.
Got to think Cully is a couple of rounds up on the cards at the very least.

Saturday 25 May 2024 20:14 , Matt Verri
Round 7
More of the same from Patera, he wants to be the one pushing the pace. Managed this for two minutes of the previous round, but then eased off.
Cully misses with the right hand, Patera punishes him with a great body shot. Belgian going downstairs more and more now.
Again it’s a good last minute from Cully, sharp work. He’s still throwing so many punches, even if none of them have really hurt Patera.

Round 6
Patera has marched out of his corner with real intent at the start of the round. Looks like a man that has been told he needs to start forcing the issue.
He’s walking Cully down, constant pressure. Much better - can he sustain this for the next few rounds?
Doesn’t want to get too ragged though, head down and two looping right hands thrown. Swing and a miss.
Cully asked a few questions, but a couple of nice counter shots in the final seconds.
Patera’s round - we’ll call it 4-2 Cully after six.

Saturday 25 May 2024 20:05 , Matt Verri
Round 5
Cully looks for a big left uppercut as Patera walks in, misses by a fair distance.
The Belgian returns the favour, left and then right swung in from a mile away, not even close to landing.
Scrappy round that one, but Cully is in control at the halfway stage.
Cully vs Patera
Saturday 25 May 2024 20:01 , Matt Verri
Round 4
Patera relying solely on single right hands, but throwing from too far away. Cully seeing it coming a mile off.
The Irishman mixing it up well, to head and body. Confidence has grown over the last couple of rounds.
Left hook catches Cully there though, Patera’s best shot in a while.
Probably still Cully’s round - got him 3-1 up.
Cully vs Patera
Saturday 25 May 2024 19:57 , Matt Verri
Round 3
Really good burst from Cully, relentless 20 seconds or so and that’s the best action of the fight so far.
Bit of a mark below Patera’s left eye now, bit uncomfortable after Cully’s brief charge.
Patera is looking for the big, looping overhand right, but he’s struggling to land it now. Cully moving his feet well to avoid it.
Cully’s round.

Saturday 25 May 2024 19:53 , Matt Verri
Round 2
Cully looking to close the distance a bit more now, but that is leaving him within range. Patera lands a big right hand.
Plenty of punches being thrown by Cully, in combinations too, but not much power behind them. Patera yet to be troubled.
Good work-rate from Cully, but it’s Patera with the cleaner work.

Saturday 25 May 2024 19:49 , Matt Verri
Round 1
Cagey start from both, as they look to feel their way into the fight.
It’s Patera in the centre of the ring, Cully happy to just try and jab off the back foot for now.
Caught with a left hook there though, chin was wide open and Patera took full advantage.
Think that’s Patera’s round.
Saturday 25 May 2024 19:44 , Matt Verri
Patera has history when it comes to upsetting the odds in the UK. He stunned Lewis Ritson, who is in action later tonight, six years.
Ten rounds of lightweight action scheduled.
On we go...
Saturday 25 May 2024 19:41 , Matt Verri
Next fight coming up straight away.
It’s Ireland’s Gary Cully, continuing his comeback from a shock defeat on home soil last year to Jose Felix Jr.
Cully fights Patera, a former European champion.
Visioli: I thrive off big stage
Saturday 25 May 2024 19:38 , Matt Verri
“I’m obviously over the moon again. Third knockout.
“I don’t go looking for it. I let it fly and it comes. I’m really pleased again.
“When I saw the amount of people in here, I was mind-blown. It gave me a little bit more nerves, but I thrive off it.”
Visioli marches on
Saturday 25 May 2024 19:34 , Matt Verri
Not a mark on Visioli - easy as you like for him.
Only 21, has had three professional bouts, but he looks to have a huge amount of potential.
Visioli vs Odabai
Saturday 25 May 2024 19:31 , Matt Verri
Round 4
Into the second-half of the fight - Odabai will do well to make it the six rounds.
He’s got both hands high, trying to move back out of trouble.
But he’s down! Left hook dug into the body.
Odabai just about beats the count... but it’s waved off!
Visioli moves to 3-0 with a third stoppage victory.
Visioli vs Odabai
Saturday 25 May 2024 19:27 , Matt Verri
Round 3
Just his third fight, and this is the first time Visioli has gone beyond two rounds.
Straight left from Visioli lands, but Odabai is, on the whole, taking these punches well. Chin is holding up for now.
This time it’s the right uppercut, followed by a snapping one-two. Visioli starting to go through the gears.
And Odabai is hurt now - he staggers onto the ropes. Just trying to cover up, with 30 seconds to go in the round.
Looks to be a great body from Visioli, referee says it was low though. Still a great round for Visioli.
Visioli vs Odabai
Saturday 25 May 2024 19:23 , Matt Verri
Round 2
Sunny Edwards a very vocal presence in the Visioli corner, enjoying what he’s seeing.
Couple of nice left hands from Visioli, who then pivots away from the ropes and back into the centre of the ring.
“Lovely shot” shouts Edwards, as another left uppercut lands. Visioli continues to land freely.
Comfortably taken the first two rounds.
Visioli vs Odabai
Saturday 25 May 2024 19:19 , Matt Verri
Round 1
Lovely left uppercut in the opening seconds from Visioli, really sharp start.
Moving nicely off the back foot, but Odabai counters with a decent right hand. Visioli takes it well.
Left hook lands before Odabai even reacts, Visioli’s speed causing real issues already. Good opening round.
Saturday 25 May 2024 19:16 , Matt Verri
Visioli 2-0 in the very early stages of his professional career, both those wins coming by knockout.
Odabai has a 6-3-1 record - very much the underdog.
Ding ding... we’re underway!

George Liddard has wasted little time in winning in emphatic fashion.
A first-round stoppage victory for Libbard, who proves far too good for Graham McCormack.
It was pretty much done from the moment that big right hand landed for the first knockdown.
Quick finish for @GeorgeLiddard 😤

Taylor predicts 'barnstormer'
Saturday 25 May 2024 18:38 , Matt Verri
Josh Taylor has apologised for producing a stinker of a fight when he and Jack Catterall first met but has promised a “barnstormer” for their rematch more than two years on.
In what was the first defence of his undisputed light-welterweight title, Taylor was knocked down by Catterall, who also landed more punches than his opponent in 11 of the 12 rounds, but a controversial split decision went the way of the champion. One publication even called it the “biggest robbery in British boxing history”.
Taylor went on to lose his next title defence to Teofimo Lopez in Madison Square Gardens, New York, by unanimous decision and, a year on, he takes on Catterall once more.
Of the pair’s first encounter, he said: “The last fight was a stinker from both of us. Jack was doing a lot of holding and spoiling, slowing down the pace, I was very pool as well. I believe the two of us can be a lot better and it will be a better fight for the fans.
“It’s going to be a barnstormer. We were first in the arena on Monday and get a bit of a surprise, it’s right on top of you, so it’s going to be a great experience and atmosphere in there. It’s been a long two years since the first fight.”
Up and running in Leeds!

Taylor: Catterall will walk onto a shot
Saturday 25 May 2024 18:02 , Matt Verri
Josh Taylor has insisted he wants Jack Catterall to push for the knockout tonight, believing the Englishman will get himself into trouble if he marches forward on the front foot.
"He’s talking knockout, he's going to come out aggressively and try and be more engaging, which is great," Taylor said.
"I've seen a lot of gaps in his offence game. He leaves a lot of gaps and a lot of holes for him to walk onto a nice sweet shot and it will be a goodnight Vienna.
"So, yeah, it's music to my ears if that's what he wants to do, great. That's my forte, fighting.
"If he wants to box then great, but we've done that as well, we've been smart as well. I'm prepared to the best in my ability this time so I’m looking forward to it.”
Finally got the rematch
Saturday 25 May 2024 17:54 , Matt Verri
There have been a fair few false starts with this rematch.
The bout was called off last year when Taylor picked up a foot injury in training, and the initial April 27 date this year was pushed back to tonight due to the Scottish man undergoing a “minor eye procedure”.
Catterall has been forced to wait - he gets his chance at last.
How it all started
Saturday 25 May 2024 17:42 , Matt Verri
The pair first fought in Glasgow two years ago, when Taylor was undisputed champion at super-lightweight.
Catterall was on enemy territory but he produced a brilliant performance, with Taylor dropped in the eighth round.
It appeared certain that Catterall would get the decision as the fight went the full 12 rounds... not to be. Taylor won by split decision, one judge somehow finding a way to score it 114-111 in his favour.
‘Controversial’ does not do it justice.
Serious bad blood...
Saturday 25 May 2024 17:33 , Matt Verri
A lot of times, it’s fairly obvious that any trash talk and shoving matches are all part of the show, with both fighters player their role.
This is different. Taylor and Catterall do not like each other, at all.
Bit of a surprise that it was as calm as it was at yesterday’s weigh-in.

Main event prediction
Saturday 25 May 2024 17:14 , Matt Verri
Taylor surely won’t be overlooking Catterall to quite the extent he did before the first fight, but there are still question for him to answer mover making 140lbs.
He was below-par too against Teofimo Lopez, with it now a a significant amount of time since he produced his best.
It’s hard to imagine quite as bad a performance from the Scot, but Catterall looks primed to avenge that loss, and get the better of his bitter rivalry.
Jack Catterall to win on points.

At last the bad blood will be settled, it’s one of the biggest fights in British boxing. Should be a brilliant night.
We’ll have all the latest updates and coverage of the undercard, which begins at 7pm BST, before the main event. Ring walks for that expected at around 10pm.
