Taco Bell announce major plans for Australian return

US fast food chain Taco Bell has announced they will be opening 50 new stores in Australia.

Brisbane is currently home to the only Taco Bell in the country, but after “an overwhelming response” from customers, the chain is now set to expand in three states.

Southeast Queensland has been cited as a major location, however, where the remaining stores are established remains anyone’s guess, with Australian franchisee Collins Foods refusing to confirm specific details.

“We don’t have specifics to share at this stage, but let’s just say not all 50 [restaurants] will be opening in Queensland,” the company said.

“We understand that there is a lot of excitement and interest about where the additional 50 Taco Bell restaurants will open, however we are unable to provide specific locations at this time.

“In older (equally as hunger-inducing) news, three more restaurants are set to open this year in the lucky suburbs of Robina, North Lakes and Cleveland.”

This will be third time the Tex-Mex chain has attempted to crack the Australian market.

A local restaurant with a similar name sued the chain when they first came down under in the early 1980s.

Several stores were opened in 1997 but were eventually closed again in 2005 after the business struggled for customers.
