'Happy Hours' at Aussie pubs could soon be banned under radical new plan

We could soon be paying more for our schooners and pints at the pub should a radical new tax plan goes ahead.

The Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education have suggested a surge in the excise paid on beer in a bid to help the Government save money and to encourage Australians to drink less. This would see the price of beer, wine and spirits rise.

Currently, beer sold in large kegs in large quantities is taxed significantly less than packaged beer sold in smaller quantities.

Along with this 10% tax increase, they also want to see a ban on Aussie pubs holding a 'happy hour' as they believe it encourages binge drinking.
