Michael Bublé shares positive update on son's battle with cancer

Michael Buble and his family have plenty to celebrate following the latest report on their son Noah's fight against cancer.

"We are so grateful to report that our son has been progressing well during his treatment and the doctors are very optimistic about the future for our little boy," the singer said in a statement released on his Facebook page.

"He has been brave throughout and we continue to be inspired by his courage. We thank God for the strength he has given all of us.”

The singer shared his three-year-old son's liver cancer diagnosis in November, and announced he would be putting his career on hold to focus on his family.

Just before Noah's diagnosis, Michael spoke candidly with Sunday Night, telling of the highs and lows of his life and his latest album, Nobody But Me.

The album pays homage to some of his favourite names in music, but there's was one track that ruffled his 'feminist' feathers.

A cover of the 1961 Matt Monro hit ‘My Kind of Girl” features on it, along with Buble's new hits, but the line ‘She cooks like an angel cooks’ was changed because he felt it was 'wrong'.

"I know that a long time ago that seemed to be socially acceptable," he said.

"I changed the lyrics to, ‘And I’m hooked, after just one look’, because ‘She cooks like an angel cooks’ just seems really wrong at this point."

"I’m a feminist," he admitted to Sunday Night.

"Oh my God, I am in so much trouble after this interview."

The witty Canadian singer grew up in a blue-collar suburb Vancouver and, as a teenager, went to work with his dad on a fishing trawler.

"You know what, I lived on the water most of my life. My father was a fisherman, so I thought like perhaps that would be my, kind of my thing.

But his thing actually turned out to be music, and he has sold more than 55 million albums in a genre he claims is superior to any current pop sound.

"I just love the great American songbook."

"I love jazz, I love Sammy, I love Sinatra, I love Dean, I love Nelson Riddle."

"I love listen to me some of those swing songs they groove harder than any hip hop song will ever groove. Musicality if fiercer than anybody that plays now."

Michael’s most popular song, the 2009 global hit ‘Haven’t Met You Yet’ actually led to a serendipitous meeting with the woman who would become his wife.

Luisana, a model and actress, starred in the music video and two years later they were married.

They have two children, Noah and one-year-old Eli and married life was pretty perfect, but a health scare in early 2016 rocked him professionally.

Michael cancelled shows in May and booked himself in for urgent surgery to repair his vocal chords.

He has stayed tight lipped about the health scare but said even he was shocked to discover it wasn’t due to his celebrity lifestyle — but fatherhood.

"I like to party. And like anybody else, any young lad out there, I enjoy indulging in many things and partying with my friends and then I had kids and I said to myself, “You know what. I want to be more present, I don’t want to be wasted or anything. And I am just going to go cold turkey and sober. And I did. "

"I stopped everything. And you know what happened? My voice got mushed from it. I really should have not been sober. I think that's the story here kids," he said.

The good news is Michael has made a full recovery.

"The doctor said, 'Listen dude, yes it was hard on your voice that your body was used to a certain way of living … the good news is you are going to live much longer and your voice is going to be much stronger than it ever was'."

Michael made his debut as a producer on Nobody But You, his ninth studio album.

"I've been very fortunate the dominoes fell the right way. I wish I could tell you it was because I am so super talented and sexy but we all know that that is not true."

"I truly wanted to challenge myself and so I felt it was an opportunity for me for the first time in my career to actually take control."
