An incredible scene unfolded below a woman’s balcony in Metro Manila on July 24, as the strong current of the Marikina River caused a succession of barges and boats to smash into each other and a bridge over the typhoon-swollen waterway.Alexandria Rellosa, who recorded the dramatic scene, told Storyful that she heard people shouting and decided to check outside.“The water level immediately got high and the current was so much stronger than the usual,” Rellosa told Storyful. “The barges hit the bridge and then hit each other. I saw the crewmen trying to go to the roofs and jump off. There were also small boats that were parked under the bridge which were hit.”According to 24 Oras, some 20 people were eventually rescued from the incident. The Philippines’ National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council said it had received reports of 14 deaths related to Typhoon Gaemi, known locally as Carina.
