Strong Aus waves sweep ute into surf
Video obtained by Reuters showed bystanders assisting a man and his passenger as their white Ford Ranger bobbed in the dangerous surf after being washed off Rainbow Beach by cyclone-triggered tides.
Eyewitness Bruce Howe told Reuters he and his wife were staying at the beach's caravan park nearby and filmed the scene when he saw people gathering to help.
The locals helped to retrieve belongings from the ute as attempts to move the vehicle turned futile, Howe said.
An eyewitness also captured a massive wave rolling across South Golden Beach in New South Wales (NSW) state on Monday (December 3), completely submerging sand dunes located behind it.
