Neighbours chase down stranger who 'stabbed nurse taking her bins out'

A nurse is clinging to life after she was stabbed by a stranger while putting out her bins in Townsville.

Skye Woodlands was left critically injured after she was allegedly attacked at random with a knife just before 9.30pm on Wednesday night.

She sustained extensive wounds to her chest and arms.

Police say the person responsible attempted to flee the scene before two unarmed neighbours chased him down.

“I speeded after him and tackled him to the ground,” Neighbour Lesley Thimble said.

“We kept asking him, ‘Why’d you do it? What’d you do?’

“And he just said, ‘it wasn’t me, I was possessed’.”

The alleged assailant was arrested in a park a short time after the attack.

Police say the pair do not know each other and the attack appears to be random.

Her alleged attacker has been charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

Ms Woodlands’ friend Maddi Wright has started a GoFundMe page to support her recovery.

“Skye is a nurse who assists women with Endometriosis,” Ms Wright wrote on the page.

“She, herself, has battled for years in and out of hospital with Endometriosis.

“Skye is the most amazing and loving person.”
