Strange legal twist after man jailed for having sex with chickens

A British man who has been found guilty of having sex with chickens while his wife filmed will get to keep his birds due to a legal loophole.

Rehan Baig, 37, was jailed for three years this week for the vulgar act, as well as being in possession of child sex abuse material after police retrieved a computer from his home in July last year.

According to the BBC, a judge at Bradford Crown Court said Baig's actions would make a right-thinking person “sick to their stomach”.

His wife, Haleema Baig, was given a six-month suspended sentence for her involvement in the crime which reportedly ended in the death of several brown and white chickens.

Sentencing the couple, Judge Richard Mansell QC said Baig's offending was “depraved, perverted and despicable”, the BBC reported.

Footage seized by the authorities also showed the man sexually abusing a dog.

However, the judge was unable to enforce a ban on the 37-year-old from owning livestock. After initially trying to do so, the judge realised a lifetime ban on owning animals was not technically possible.

“There was no animal cruelty charge on the indictment. I have no power therefore to prohibit him from owning animals,” he noted.

Instead, the judge suggested the prosecution consult with the RSPCA and raise the matter before the city's magistrates to see if an order could be enforced.
