Stephen Mulhern's In For A Penny heads to US for series finale

Stephen Mulhern has jetted off to Florida to film the grand finale of his ITV game show In For A Penny.

The popular programme wraps its latest series this weekend, and to mark the occasion the host shot a one-off special in the US. The episode was filmed at Walt Disney World Resort for the first time in In For A Penny history, and as well as Mulhern, some Disney favourites will be involved in the extravaganza.

Speaking when the trip was announced, the show’s creative director Diego Rincón said: “We are thrilled to be taking the epic In For A Penny to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida! This is a perfect partnership to create truly entertaining TV.”

What is In For A Penny All About?

In For A Penny is based on a segment of the same name in Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway – which Mulhern is also a part of – and started in 2019. It sees the presenter visiting different places in the UK, where he finds people willing to take part in challenges.

The unusual tasks can be anything from drawing an animal to guessing the weight of a suitcase, the wackier the better. The episode then ends with the game In for A Penny, In For A Grand, in which hopefuls – who need a penny to enter - try to win a £1,000 prize.

What will happen in the finale?

The grand finale will see Mulhern putting holidaymakers through their paces at the Disney resort. People taking part will play some brand new In For A Penny games as well as classic games and other tasks, like the infamous stopwatch game.

ITV has vowed the episode will be "the biggest, craziest, silliest episode of In For A Penny yet”.

What has Stephen Mulhern said about the finale?

Mulhern has said that when he was told he was going to be heading to the US to film his show he knew it would be “unbelievable”.

"It’s been an amazing experience taking the show outside of the UK for the first time ever and having both US and UK contestants take part in the gameplay,” the Mirror quoted him as saying. “This will be a very special episode that myself, the contestants, and everyone watching back home in the UK will never forget!"

"I also loved meeting Mickey Mouse, my favourite Disney character and a fellow magician!” he added.

In For A Penny airs at 6.15pm on ITV on Saturday, 8 June.
