Snake caught on camera eating another snake

WARNING - Graphic content: A small-eyed snake has been caught on camera devouring another small-eyed snake in Queensland.

The video was posted to the Toowoomba Snake Catchers 24/7 Facebook page on Sunday evening, but the snake made a meal of the other reptile at about 1am that morning.

The occupant of the home on Church House Road, Perseverance, in south-east Queensland, spotted the snakes behind some boxes out the front of the home.

Dave Wiedman from Toowoomba Snake Catchers 24/7 said the home's occupants weren't aware of the snake's species when they contacted him.

Mr Wiedman said this type of snake had been responsible for the death one person, but said it is common for snakes to eat other snakes.

"A lot of black snakes are other reptile eaters," said Dave Wiedman.

However, Dave Wiedman said it's only the second time he's seen this behaviour in 10 years.

The surviving snake was relocated to the bush.

"They use a lot of energy once they've had a big feed so he wasn't too hard to handle," said Mr Wiedman.
