Gruesome video has captured the moment a man was allegedly choked and left lying unconscious on a pavement in a vile night time attack.

The video, posted to Reddit, appears to show a group of young men and another man, dressed in a white shirt, getting into a tussle on York St in Sydney’s CBD.

One young can be seen pushing the man, who then talks to the group before another man comes up behind him and places his arm around his neck.

The man appears to be in pain and struggles as the other man holds him.

The group then move away and the video returns to show the man lying on the pavement, apparently unconscious.

NSW Police told NCA NewsWire they were aware of an incident on York St on Saturday night.

“About 10pm last night, police were called to a licensed premises on York Street, Sydney after reports of an assault,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said on Sunday.

“Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and spoke to a 33-year-old man who had reportedly been assaulted during an altercation with a group of males on the street earlier.”

Police said the man suffered facial injuries and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment.

“An investigation is now underway into the incident,” the spokeswoman said.

The alleged act of violence, which was posted to the Sydney subreddit late on Saturday, has left social media users sickened.

“Just another night in Sydney. I don’t go out in the CBD ‘cause you just see this s**t all the time,” one person wrote on the platform.

“Hopefully lots of CCTV for the police to make quick decisions,” another said.

The video is 28 seconds long and does not detail the moments before the tussle or what was said between the parties.
