Servo owner in dramatic standoff with thieves: 'True Aussie bloke'

Queensland Police confirmed to Yahoo News Australia on Friday they were still on the hunt for the alleged bandits.

Queensland police are still hunting for thieves who have been on an alleged crime spree, despite the best efforts of one brave service station owner.

The offenders have been caught on camera stealing petrol during a dramatic standoff with the servo owner who tried to get in their way.

Clint Weber, who runs the Toowoomba petrol station, recognised the vehicle after it stole petrol earlier in the week. Wanting to prevent another runner, he quickly dashed out and waited as the driver finished filling up.

As the man got back in his car rather than heading inside to pay, Clint casually stepped in front of the vehicle.

Standing in front of the car, the thieves were apparently in no mood to pay however, instead surging forward as Clint was forced onto the bonnet.

"He just decided he was going to run over me so he proceeded to do that," he told Nine News. "At that point, I held on for grim death I suppose."

Thankfully, he walked away with relatively minor injuries – but a little less petrol.

In a Facebook post, the business assured the public the "true Aussie bloke" was doing fine but said the incident left him with "sore ribs, cuts and bruises".

"Thank you everyone for your concern about how Clint is," the post said.

Speaking to Nine News, Queensland Police senior investigator Jason Kitto said police believe the vehicle was stolen from a home in Toowoomba on Saturday.

"We believe those responsible for the offence yesterday at the service station are also responsible for a number of other offences within the Darling Downs district," he said.
