A 79-year-old man found seriously injured in Newham, east London, has died in hospital as a 20-year-old was charged with attempted murder.

The elderly man was found “suffering serious injuries” at a property in Plaistow Road, Plaistow, on Wednesday, said the Met police.

He was taken in a critical condition to hospital, where he later died.

Philip Fracezek, 20, of Tower Hamlets Road, West Ham, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with attempted murder.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on June 14.

“Given the victim sadly died after the initial charges were imposed, we will work closely with the CPS to have the charge amended as appropriate,” said the Met police in a statement on Tuesday.

The victim’s next of kin have been identified and are being supported by specialist officers, say police.
